The traditions of Vedic Astrology bring much importance to the form and energy of Sri Ganesha, who is loved and revered in homes across the world.

The Ganesh Chaturthi festival that occurs each year in the lunar month of Bhaadrapada, brings much devotion, adoration and reverence for Ganesha or Ganapati to the fore.

The Astrology Horoscope or Vedic Astrology Chart is considered to embody nine forms of Ganesha, each form is associated with the nine different planets (grahas) – the Sun, Moon, Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. The Chart itself is revered as a ‘Yantra‘ or ‘divine diagram’ to be looked upon as an intricate representation of the most sacred forces of life.

Among the planets, Ganesha is most closely associated with Ketu (the south node) and Brihaspati (Jupiter). To align with the qualities of these planetary forces, Sri Ganesha‘s sadhana, puja or invocation can be extremely powerful.

Invoking Ganesha gives the seeker an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the larger forces of light, time and space.

While Ganesha is also depicted as having a transcendent knowledge of that which is ‘beyond’ the five elements, he is also firmly grounded in the earthly experience. He represents the ‘Mooladhara Chakra’, the root chakra in the Yogic system. To invoke Ganesha is to enliven our most sacred connection with life, that is both, ever-flowing like the river, and steady like the earth. To to be in tune with the cycles and rhythms of Nature, is to be in alignment with the energy of Ganesha.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a time to reaffirm this eternal bond we share with the source of all life. As well as to nurture joy, simplicity and a playful approach to life.

The sweets and ‘modakas’ that Ganapati loves, remind us to relish the sweetness in life’s experiences. Always grateful, always in joy!
