Dear Seeker,

Over the next eighteen months until April 2022, Ketu, the south node of the Moon, transits the zodiac sign of Scorpio. Ketu is the shadow force that brings a contraction of belief systems, one-pointed focus, as well as the transcendence of the physical to contemplate and know the Higher Self. It exemplifies the reach for truth that can only be known through the process of reflection and direct realisation, away from the instant reactiveness that is encouraged by mass media in today’s times.

Ketu is a mysterious force that works in profound ways, and can bring a range of powerful experiences to a person’s life. It is also reflective of the knowing that we bring from our past lives, giving us powerful opportunities – both on individual and collective levels – to realign and re-examine the purpose of life.

During this transit, as Ketu traverses the lunar mansion of Jyestha within Scorpio, hidden impulses often come to the fore and cannot be concealed as effectively as they may have been in the past. The stars of Jyeshtha are also known as the place of Goddess Kali. The fierce forms of the Goddess are invoked here to manage the powerful subconscious and karmic influences that come from this part of the zodiac that also marks the periphery of the Galactic Center.

Depending on where Ketu is placed in your own astrological chart, it can bring a deeper focus to specific areas of your life. It gives you access to higher intuition, or the desire to detach from mental patterns that do not serve you anymore. Ketu is the ‘flag bearer’ that can either manifest on the lower spectrum as thoughts that cause self-destruction, but it can also serve the spiritual goal of self-realization.

Ketu represents letting go of the ‘head’ of arrogance, and is depicted as the headless serpent. This denotes the transcendence of the physical mind to the experience of higher wisdom. The eternal nature of this wisdom is held by the form of ‘Ganesha’, who has the head of an elephant, and the body of a human. Ganesha helps us understand the often confusing manifestations of Ketu’s mystical energy.

During Ketu’s transit of Scorpio over the next few months, especially until June 2021, images from the past may come to you in dreams, intuitive insight, or through a repetition of patterns from the past in your life experience. To be able to look at these, and release the burdens you carry from them, or to accept and find ways to forgive those who have hurt you in your past – these can be some important steps to take on your own journey, during this transit.

The Ganapati Prarthana or ‘Prayer to Ganapati (Ganesha)’ is a Vedic recitation to Sri Ganesha, and is recited at the beginning of spiritual, meditative practice or sadhana. My recording of this recitation is on YouTube at the following link, with lyrics and a translation. Listening to the Vedic sounds is a recommended practice to enrich the meditation process.
