Guru Purnima – the day of the Full Moon in the Vedic lunar month of Ashadha, is dedicated to honouring the teachers, both known and unknown, who tirelessly hold space for seekers to learn, imbibe and grow on the path.
This Full Moon is a sacred moment in the lunar calendar — a time to pause, reflect, and offer our deepest gratitude to the source of all wisdom, inspiration, and inner awakening. The word Guru means “the one who dispels darkness,” and on this day, we honour not only the spiritual teachers and mentors who guide us, but also the divine spark within — the silent inner Guru.
Whether the guidance comes through a living teacher, a sacred text, the notes of music, or the quiet voice of intuition, Guru Purnima is a reminder that we are never truly alone on our path. It is an invitation to return to humility, to reverence, and to the awareness of the higher presence that flows through all creation.
When we pause to honour the Source of our knowledge and wisdom gained through time, we might realise how many traditions, teachers, luminaries, experiences and moments have all contributed to bringing us closer to discovering the potential we hold in this life.
This is also a day to commit to a journey of studying something you have always wanted to, for your own inner growth. If you are a student of Yoga, this is also a good day to renew your commitment to a deeper study of texts of Yogic philosophy, such as the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, Yoga Sutras, the Mahabharata or the Ramayana.
May this Guru Purnima renew our connection to the source — the light behind every note, every breath, every offering.
