Dear Seeker,

The Full Moon of Buddha Purnima or Vaishakha Purnima, brings with it the blessings of knowledge that the luminaries – the Moon and the Sun – hold for us on a spiritual level. May the perceptive light of Chandra and Surya reveal within you the answers you seek on your journey.

This year, 2021, Buddha Purnima also brings a lunar eclipse that will be visible in some parts of the world. The cycles of the waning and waxing Moon have occurred since time immemorial. Eclipses have always been a part of the natural planetary movements, they are not a new or ominous phenomenon. We are deeply tuned to their rhythms from the day we are born, even though we may not be consciously aware of the occurrence and dates of these planetary alignments.

Eclipses are a time when energy often gets turned inward, and the ‘gates of the void’ are opened, allowing an opportunity for being present to realms that are beyond the ego and mindKetu, that force of transcendence, the great shadow, brings our awareness to the ‘blind spots’ – those areas which cannot be ordinarily seen. Showing us that light and darkness go hand in hand in this eternal play of cosmic existence.

On the day of a lunar eclipse, therefore, it is recommended to take some time to meditatechant and perhaps even be in silence for some part of the day. Our sensitivity to the inner realms is strong on this day, and spiritual practice or sadhana creates a vessel within the lotus of the heart – a receptacle – for the many darting impulses of the mind to be cooled within the waters of pure presence.

I’d like to share with you my recording of the AUM (OM) Mantra chanted 108 times. The mantra ‘OM’ is known as the Primordial Sound – the sound of the Cosmic Being, ‘Ishvara’, all-pervasive Consciousness.

The collective sound of OM is made from three sounds in Sanskrit: “A”, “U” and “M”. Listening to or chanting the OM mantra is a revered practice within the traditions of Yoga.

As you listen, allow the sound to permeate your awareness; let the sound lead you into meditation. You can also play the OM chanting within your living space – this infuses the space with sacred vibrations, bringing peace to those who reside in the space.
