Dear Soul,

At the beginning of the New Year, as with all new beginnings, I bring to mind this beautiful Sanskrit Mantra for peace and well-being, from the Vedic texts.

Shanti Mantra

Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah
Sarve Santu Niraamayaah
Sarve Bhadraanni Pashyantu
Maa Kashcid-Duhkha-Bhaag-Bhavet

|| Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||

Meaning:

May all beings be happy,
May all be free from disease,
May all see auspicious things,

May none suffer.

Om Peace, Peace, Peace.

The nature of this experience of life is to unfold in duality through the range of the pairs of opposites. Dark and light, happiness and suffering, acclaim and dishonour. Where one manifests, the other is, as well, a possibility.

And yet the prayer, the intention, that goes out from the heart is for every being to have the opportunity to live life in harmony and to experience peace. When I recite this chant, I feel a lightening of the heart and a sense of calm within, as I let go of reactions and opinions, and make place for sacred invocation. I encourage you as well to include this kind of invocation in to your practice, if you feel drawn to it.

I look forward to joining sacred intention with you in some form this year! Wishing you peace, joy and well-being in the months ahead.

With Love and Peace,

Sai Ganesh Nagpal
